Waldoboro police beat: Assault, alcohol offenses, fender benders
WALDOBORO — Waldoboro police responded to 425 calls for service from July 8 to July 31. What follows are a few of the highlights. An arrest or summons does not imply guilt. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
July 9
Officer John Lash investigated an accident on Kaler’s Corner Rd at 11:29 a.m. Gracie Hartung, 17, of Jefferson, was driving a 1993 Chevrolet pickup truck. Andrea Robinson, 35, of Waldoboro, was driving a 2011 Chevrolet sedan. Hartung stopped at the intersection of Atlantic Highway and Kaler’s Corner, realized she needed to go the other way, and backed up to get a better angle to turn. She did not see Robinson’s vehicle and struck it.
He also investigated the reported theft of tools (approximately $400 value). Tools were located and returned to the owner.
July 11
Officer Jeremy Joslyn summonsed a 15 year-old male from Waldoboro for consuming liquor.
He and Detective Benefield arrested Derick Winslow, 23, of Waldoboro for domestic violence assault.
July 13
Officer Jeffery Fuller summonsed Jessica Deshiro, 27, of Waldoboro, for operating after suspension.
Officer Jeremy Joslyn arrested Jeremy Peterson, 23, of Waldoboro, for domestic violence criminal threatening.
He also arrested Andrew Grimes, 35, of Nobleboro, on a warrant.
July 14
Officer Jeffery Fuller investigated a report of criminal mischief to a vehicle.
Officer Andrew Santheson arrested Daniel Chickering, 32, of Waldoboro, for a violation of a protection from abuse order.
Officer Jeremy Joslyn arrested a 17 year-old male, from Union, on a warrant.
July 15
Officer Andrew Santheson summonsed Charles Peters, 57, of Waldoboro for an uninspected motor vehicle.
July 16
Officer John Lash investigated a report of the theft of approximately $145 worth of items from a motor vehicle.
He also summonsed Sean Hunter, 31, of Bristol, for attaching false plates and operator possessing an open container on a public way.
July 17
Officer Thomas Bartunek charged Joseph Waltz, 25, of Waldoboro for operating after suspension and attaching false plates.
July 18
Officer John Lash investigated a report from Goodnow’s Variety that the lock was cut on the ice machine and ice stolen.
July 19
Officer Jeffery Fuller investigated an accident on the Atlantic Highway at 11:03 a.m. Alicia Brann, 36, of Jefferson, was driving a 2003 Kia sedan. Grace Lange-Way, 68, of Richmond, was driving a 2010 Chevrolet sedan. Brann attempted to make a left turn into a business, failed to yield the right of way to Lange-Way, and caused the two vehicles to collide, the report said. There were no injuries.
July 20
Officer Jeffery Fuller investigated a report that a male subject tried to take the plates off a vehicle.
July 22
Officer Andrew Santheson summonsed Anthony Feltis, 27, of Waldoboro, for assault and criminal mischief.
He also summonsed Jason Smith, 26, of Waldoboro for assault.
Officer Jeremy Joslyn summonsed Matthew Ruppert, 21, of Waldoboro, for furnishing a place for minors to consume/possess liquor.
July 23
Officer Jeremy Joslyn arrested Derek Bragg, 25, of Waldoboro, for failure to notify of motor vehicle accident, and operating under the influence.
He also investigated an accident on the Wagner Bridge Road at 12:28 a.m. Derek Bragg was driving a 2000 VW sedan, left the roadway, struck a pole and some trees, the report said. There were no injuries.
Officer John Lash investigated an accident in the Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot at 10:57 a.m. Christopher Johnston, 41, of Jefferson, was driving a 1993 Ford truck. Edward Braymen, 56, of Ocala Fla., was driving a 2014 Jeep. Braymen was parked in designated parking area. Johnston backed into the center passenger side door of the Jeep while trying to pick up a dumpster. The Jeep was in the blind spot of the Ford truck, the report said.
Officer Thomas Hoepner investigated a report of items stolen from a backyard.
Officer Thomas Bartunek charged Keith Foley, 43, of Portland, for harassment and violation of conditional release.
July 28
Officer John Lash investigated a report from Moose Crossing Garden Center of the theft of a hanging plant. The plant was recovered.
He also investigated a reported burglary.
