Waldo County Emergency Management Agency issues storm advisory
High winds, heavy rain and possible power outages are predicted for the Maine coast, thanks to a strengthening nor’easter.
“A major Nor`easter will move across New Hampshire and Maine tonight into Thursday,” warned the National Weather Service, in Gray. “Heavy rain and strong winds are expected across the area with damaging winds possible along the coast. The low will move out on Friday with upslope showers lingering to start the weekend. High pressure will build in for the weekend before another cold front moves through next week.”
On Oct. 16, the Waldo County Emergency Management Agency (WEMA) issued a news alert advising that an approaching storm will pack a punch, with perhaps one to two inches of rain, and high wind gusts, up to 50 mph in some spots, through Thursday.
The storm is anticipated to arrive tonight, with minor river flooding possible. It is to diminish and exit Friday morning.
Prepare for possible power outages.
• Have fuel for your generator. Test run the generator. Keep it outside.
• Store at least 1 gallon of drinking water per person per day for at least 3-5 days.
• Have a plan if you are medically dependent on power. Do you have a battery or generator?
Do you have a place to go (family, friends or hotel)?
• Have a flashlight with extra batteries.
• Have an AM/FM radio with extra batteries and listen for emergency instructions.
• Check up on your neighbors, especially those who live alone.
Also: charge your phones and laptops, and battery packs.

Please do not call 911 for information, WEMA asks.
“Call 911 only to report an actual emergency,” the agency said.
