U-turn results in crash with propane truck in Stockton Springs
STOCKTON SPRINGS — A Bucksport man was transported to Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast after he attempted to pull a U-turn on the highway, and was struck by a fuel truck.
According to the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, Royce Grindle, 58, of Bucksport was driving a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser south of Route 1A in Stockton Springs March 31 just before 7 p.m., when he attempted to negotiate a U-turn in the road.
Behind him, was a 2007 Sterling propane truck, also heading south. The truck, under operation of Todd Bangs, 41, of Holden, subsequently crashed into the passenger side of the PT Cruiser.
Grindle was transported to Waldo County General Hospital with incapacitating injuries, the Sheriff’s Office said, in a news release. Bangs was uninjured in the crash.
Deputy Greg Jones was the primary investigator and was assisted by Sergeant James Greeley, the Stockton Springs Fire and Ambulance, Prospect Fire Department, and Searsport Fire Department.
