Two drivers, three children injured in three-car crash in Liberty Wednesday morning
LIBERTY — An accident in Liberty Wednesday morning injured three small children as well as two of the drivers of the three cars involved in the crash.
The Waldo County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a crash at the intersection of Route 3 and Route 220 around 7:40 a.m. June 19. Also called to the scene were Liberty and Montville fire departments and Searsmont and Liberty emergency medical services.
Deputies Cody Laite and Kyle Wasiela conducted an investigation and determined the accident was caused by Lindsey Mercer, 20, of Wilmington, Mass.
Mercer was driving a 2002 Toyota Prius and had stopped at the intersection before proceeding across Route 3. According to the deputies, Mercer failed to yield the right of way to an oncoming vehicle being driven by Regina Quattrucci, 34, of Morrill.
Quattrucci was driving a 2013 Ford Fiesta with three children in the vehicle, ages 1, 5 and 9 years old. Unable to stop in time to avoid crashing into Mercer, the force of the collision with Mercer's car sent Quattrucci's vehicle into another vehicle stopped on Route 220 at the intersection.
That vehicle, a 2002 Toyota Corolla, was being operated by Aaron Hall, 36, of Liberty, who was uninjured in the crash, according to the report.
Mercer, Quattrucci and the children all sustained non-life threatening injuries, according to the report.
