Time for a parade: Route 1 closed for short time through downtown Camden Friday night
CAMDEN — The annual Christmas by the Sea parade will close a section of Route 1 in Camden for approximately 20 minutes beginning at 6 p.m., Friday, Nov. 30, as floats and marching participants wind along it to the Camden Public Library.
All traffic will be stopped at the intersection of Union and Elm (Route 1) streets and again at the intersection of Main and Mountain (routes 1 and 52) streets.
"We are not rerouting traffic, just holding," said Camden Police Chief Randy Gagne. "There will be a brief interruption of traffic during that time. Traffic will be restored down the busy Route 1 as soon as possible."
Those interested in participating in the parade are reminded to register with the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce. The chamber is requiring that all floats are lighted, and that no candy is to be thrown from the floats. Because it is dark, it is dangerous for small children to dart out into the street.
The parade will assemble on Union Street between the Catholic Church and Rankins Hardware at 5:15 p.m. The parade departs promptly at 6 p.m.
There will be no Santa Claus lookalikes on the floats because.... the real Santa Claus is arriving at the end of the parade!
