Stormy weather headed to Midcoast Wednesday evening
GRAY — The National Weather Service has issued a coastal storm warning for the northeast for Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 7 and 8.
According to the NWS, a low pressure system off the Mid-Atlantic coast will continue to strengthen as it moves north Wednesday, bringing rain, snow and/or a mixture of precipitation to areas across the northern Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, as well as wind gusts as high as 60 mph along the coast. Snowfall across interior sections of New England could approach 6-12 inches. Coastal flooding is also possible.
There is a wind advisory in place for coastal Lincoln, Knox and Waldo counties as strong winds along the coast are expected Wednesday afternoon into the overnight.
The wind advisory remains in effect from 4 p.m. this afternoon to 7 a.m. Thursday. Winds will be coming from the northeast at 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph, mainly along the immediate coast.
The strongest winds are expected late Wednesday afternoon and evening, with a gradual decrease later at night. Strong wind gusts may result in larges limbs being knocked down, which could lead to scattered power outages.
A wind advisory means strong winds of 31 to 39 mph or gusts of 46 to 57 mph can lead to damage due to downed tree limbs and scattered power outages.
