Star Light, Star Bright: First night for Mt. Battie holiday star
CAMDEN – A small group of adults and children along with members of the Friends of Mt. Battie braved a chilly Thanksgiving Day evening to climb to the top of Mt. Battie in Camden Hills State Park, 280 Belfast Road, to light the star for the first time this season.
For 58 years, the star provides hope and good tidings toward men as a symbol of the Midcoast’s holiday season. It will be lit every evening through New Year’s Eve. Only once in its history has a blizzard kept it from shining one night.
Thanksgiving is the traditional day to light the star for the first evening.
Visible all across Camden, the star embellishes one’s good feelings and optimism toward future events.
A crew assembled the star two weeks ago braving cold weather to puzzle together the 22-foot pieces into a star that were trucked to the top of Mt. Battie.
