Snowy conditions in Warren, sedan flips over into ditch

WARREN — Roads on Route 90, by Lincoln's County Store, were so slick around 6:15 Wednesday evening that a sedan traveling west up the hill slid into the opposite lane, into the ditch and rolled onto its roof. Under lightly falling snow and extremely slippery driving conditions, cars and trucks were crawling along the road.
Just as the accident happened, Kevin Montoya, a paramedic with Camden First Aid and Warren Rescue, was going in to Lincoln's for groceries after work when he saw the accident occur. At the same time, another paramedic on her way from work, Holly Draper, who also works for Warren Rescue as well as Northeast Ambulance Service, was traveling eastbound and came upon the accident.
Montoya and Draper both rushed to the truck and found a man trapped inside, upside down and held fast by the seat belt.
Montoya did a complete assessment of the man while he was still trapped inside, and after determing he was OK, the two emergency responders helped the man climb out through the driver's side window.
Warren fire responded along with Warren Rescue, and the man refused treatment. The Knox County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
Traffic was slowed to a crawl on Route 90 while drivers waited for MDOT to sand the road.
"They were at a standstill and couldn't really drive until it was sanded, it was that bad out," said PenBayPilot's Lynda Clancy, who came upon the accident Wednesday night.
After calling in her report and emailing photos from the road, Clancy said, "And then everyone went back into Lincoln's to finish shopping."
