Slick road sends pickup into Camden woods
CAMDEN — A Lincolnville woman heading to Camden on Route 1 just after noon today slid off the icy road and into the woods, landing on the driver's side of her pickup.
The accident took place just south of Sherman's Point Road where the highway takes a bend. A light snow had been falling all morning and by noon, roadways were covered with a greasy glaze.
Nicole Maynard, of Lincolnville, was head south on Route 1 in her Toyota Tacoma when she slid across the road, hit a fire hydrant and then a tree before landing on the truck's side, according to Camden Police Officer Trae Boerner. Suffering minor injuries, she was able to crawl out of the passenger window unassisted. Emergency responders righted the truck in order to pull it out of the woods.
The hydrant, normally located beside the sidewalk, traveled into the woods with the truck, landing upright in a patch of leaves. Maine Water was on its way to reposition the hydrant. The Maine Department of Transportation was also on its to way to sand the roads.
Camden First Aid and Camden Fire Department also responded to the accident. Camden Exxon hauled the truck into town while Maynard's family came to take her home.
