Sheriff: Body found in Cushing likely missing man Kevin Crute
ROCKLAND — The Knox County Sheriff's Office Friday afternoon is saying they have located a body in the woods off Route 97 in Cushing.
"The body is presumed to be that of the missing man from Cushing, Kevin Crute," said Sheriff Donna Dennison in a press release.
Crute has been missing since May 21, when family and friends last heard from him. He was last seen at a variety store on Route 1 in Warren. His family reported him missing May 25 and since then, state and local law enforcement have followed up on numerous leads.
"Along with many other local agencies, members of the Sheriff's Office and the Major Crimes Unit from the Maine State Police have been actively searching the area, following leads and interviewing over 80 people while awaiting cell phone records through search warrants to assist in our search. With the information provided we were able to extend our search area with the assistance from the Maine Warden Service, Maine Search and Rescue, and K-9 teams," said the release.
Yesterday, the Crute family offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to Kevin's whereabouts.
According to the Sheriff's Office, Crute's body was found shortly before 10 this morning by a Maine Search and Rescue K-9 team. Positive identification, along with a cause and manner of death will be determined by the state Medical Examiner's office. An autopsy is scheduled for some time this weekend, according to the Sheriff's Office.
