On August 25, at approximately 2:24 a.m., Waldo County Regional Communication Center received a call about a motorcycle crash on the Fort Knox Road in Prospect near the entrance to the Penobscot Narrows Bridge.

Responding deputies learned that Kory Schmidt, 27, of Searsport, had failed to maintain control of his motorcycle, according to a news release from the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.

The motorcycle overturned and slid across the pavement before coming to rest in the ditch.

Schmidt died on scene as a result of the injuries he sustained in the crash.

Circumstances surrounding why Schmidt failed to maintain control of his motorcycle remain under investigation.

Hancock County Sheriff’s Office assisted on scene with reconstructing the crash.
