Philip H. Swanson, obituary
VINALHAVEN — Philip Howard Swanson, 72, died peacefully Jan. 8, 2013, at Ivan Calderwood Homestead with his long-time friend, Becky Jameson, at his side.
Born on Vinalhaven Aug. 26, 1940, he was the son of Fred and Dorothy Pelkey Swanson.
For many years Philip enjoyed outings with his friend Becky, going for car rides, bowling and out to breakfast on Saturday mornings.
For several years Philip lived at the Homestead with his mother, who devoted her life to making sure he was taken care of. He was very fond of all the staff members who cared for him.
In his younger years, Philip lived on the island with his grandmother, Min Pelkey, while his parents worked in Massachusetts. As a young boy he could be seen riding his bike around town and he often hung out with the "Fish House Gang." At Christmas, the gang would put up a Christmas tree for him in the Fish House. Throughout his life, Philip also loved to collect photos and post cards, and was always adding to his collection.
Predeceased by his beloved mother in 2012; Philip is survived by his cousin, Bob Hartman and his wife, Mary Anne, of Florida; as well as other extended family members.
Philip will be interred in the family lot at Cummings Cemetery. No services will be held.
