Pedal mix-up causes car crash into Dunkin' Donuts
ROCKLAND – An Owls Head woman's mistake in pressing the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal Saturday caused the manager of Dunkin' Donuts to be knocked off his chair.
Rockland Police were called to the Dunkin' Donuts on Main Street (Route 1) around 9:45 a.m. Nov. 3 for a report of a car crashing into the building. Melissa M. Philbert, 45, was attempting to park her vehicle in a parking space when she failed to press on the brake to stop, according to the accident report filed by Rockland Officer Scott Solorzano.
Philbert's Pontiac sedan crashed through the exterior wall of the building, striking Dunkin' Donuts Manager Peter Fletcher, who was seated inside. Fletcher, 50, of Rockland, was knocked to the floor.
Fletcher was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center complaining of body pain. He was treated and released Saturday, according to the police report. Philbert and her passenger, 20-year-old Jake R. Philbert, were both wearing seat belts and were uninjured in the crash.
