Pauline M. Stanley, obituary
ROCKPORT — Pauline M. Stanley, 90, of Rockport, passed away peacefully Dec. 25, 2012. She was born in Trenton, N.J., the daughter of Lewis and Eva Tatham.
She received her education in Rockport schools and attended Colby College. She married W. Kent Stanley in 1942; after living in Massachusetts and Florida, they settled permanently in Rockport, where they raised their five children. She enjoyed working out of doors and became an avid rose gardener; in her later years, she enjoyed being grandmother and great-grandmother to her family.
She was active in the Rockland Baptist Church, as a soloist and member of the choir and as a Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School volunteer; later she attended Thomaston Baptist Church and most recently Lakeview Orthodox Presbyterian Church. She lived her Christian faith and practiced charity; she had a soft and generous spot for those in need, visiting shut-ins and nursing home residents, and when no longer able to continue that mission she became a correspondent and prayer partner to many and supported various ministries.
She is predeceased by her husband of 59 years, W. Kent Stanley; her eldest daughter, Margaret A. Stanley-Small; and a brother, Lewis C. Tatham. She is survived by two daughters, Deborah S. Washburn and her husband, Kevin, of Rockport and Kathleen S. Gambrell and her husband, John, of Little River, S.C.; two sons, Lawrence K. Stanley and his wife, Nichola, of Warwick, R.I., and David E. Stanley and his wife, Bunny, of Somerville, Maine; her son-in-law, Carl Small of Rockport; two brothers, Charles Tatham and his wife, Debbie, of Barrington, N.H., and Douglas Tatham and his wife, Pam, of Clinton, her sister-in-law, Gerry Tatham of Edgewater, Fla.; eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Lakeview Orthodox Presbyterian Church Jan. 5 at 10:00 a.m. Visiting hours will be Jan. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home in Rockland.
The family would like to thank Kno-Wal-Lin for the wonderful care and support that allowed their mother to remain in her own home until her death.
