Parade in Belfast honors Memorial Day veterans

BELFAST — People gathered along Main Street in Belfast May 27 to watch the annual Memorial Day parade, which included State Rep. (and Belfast native) Erin Herbig, and the large group of veterans she walked beside. The parade is part of the day each May when veterans and citizens gather to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the country.
Vet Friends, a website devoted to connecting military and veteran service members, reports that 626 Mainers have died while serving in the military.
One veteran who wasn't in the parade, Herman Littlefield Jr., who also serves as commander of VFW Post 6131 in Northport, said he comes to watch "almost every year with [his] family." Littlefield completed two tours of duty in Korea.
Anyone interested in joining the VFW can contact Littlefield at 338-5052 or email herman.littlefield@yahoo.com.
