Montville woman sentenced for stealing from town
BELFAST — A Montville woman has been sentenced for stealing in excess of $1,500 from the Town of Montville.
Abbie M. Hills, 49, worked as clerk for the town between Jan. 13, 2016, through June 28, 2017, the time during which her theft is alleged to have occurred. Hills was indicted for theft by deception on July 17, 2019.
Hills entered into a deferred disposition Nov. 12, in Waldo County Unified Criminal Court, with the charge of theft by deception dismissed while a charge of theft by unauthorized taking or transfer was added.
Her disposition is set to conclude on May 12, 2020. If Hills successfully completes her period of deferment, she will be convicted of theft, fined $100, and required to pay $1,650.50 restitution; if she is unsuccessful she will serve 10 days in jail, according to the official order deferring disposition.
Hills is barred from entering the Town of Montville’s town office and must comply with the terms of her deferred disposition, which include 25 hours of community service and a mental health examination.
