Michael Libby, obituary
ST. GEORGE — Michael Jason "Mikey" Libby, 16, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, May 9, 2013, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Born in Damariscotta April 15, 1997, Mikey was the son of Jason and Tammy Smith Libby. As a young child he attended St. George School, Lura Libby and Thomaston Grammar schools in the Life Skills Program.
Mikey had a great passion for movies, his family referred to him as a movie connoisseur. He also loved attending his siblings' sporting events, cheering them on and being the life of the party. A competitive Uno and Yahtzee player, he loved to beat everyone he played. His German shepherd, Madison, was the love of his life.
Mikey was a member of the Special Olympics, enjoyed bowling with his school and greatly enjoyed all the events he participated in. He particularly loved swimming at the YMCA, where he went every Wednesday.
Mikey's greatest gifts were his infectious smile and contagious laugh. His mother said she learned more from him in 16 years than she has throughout her entire life. It has been said that it didn't matter if you met Mikey once, or knew him your whole life, he left footprints on your heart. He was kind and loving and will be missed by all who knew him.
Mikey is survived by his parents of St. George; his twin sister, Marisa Libby; his brothers, Wesley Libby and Cody Hooper, all of St. George, and Alex Libby of Tenants Harbor; his grandparents, Larry and Gale Smith of Warren, Donna and Robert Winslow of Lincolnville and Glen Libby of Port Clyde; his great-grandparents, Roger and Betty Libby of Port Clyde, Rosalie Johnson of Rockport and Erma Carroll of Camden; his aunts, Jenna Libby of Burketville and Jessica Winchenbach of Friendship; an uncle, Justin Libby of Martinsville; and many cousins.
A service of love and remembrance will be held Tuesday, June 4, at 1 p.m. at Thomaston Baptist Church on Main Street in Thomaston. The Rev. Wayne Sawyer will officiate.
Those who wish may make memorial donations to Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
