Marion Roy, obituary
ROCKLAND — Marion M. Roy, 79, died peacefully, July 3, 2015, surrounded by her family, at Sussman House in Rockport.
Born in Rockland on Sept. 23, 1935, she was the daughter of Franklin and Inez Roberts Newhall. Educated locally, she attended Rockland schools.
As a young woman, Marion began working at Sylvania. On March 3, 1971, she married Philip L. Roy. A hard worker her entire life, she worked for all the local fish factories. Later in life she went back to school and earned her certified nursing assistant certificate.
Even while working at the fish factory, Marion would come home in the afternoon and go back to work at Quarry Hill. Although she faced her own health issues, she was always upbeat and loved caring for the residents there.
Always one to be active, Marion enjoyed a daily walk around her neighborhood of Glen Cove. Traveling, especially to Hollywood Slots, Fox Woods and going on casino cruises were other favorite pastimes. Following the death of her husband in 1988, Marion enjoyed the company of Nathan “Nate” King. Together they enjoyed traveling and going to dances.
She loved going to the beach, and found peace and solace there. Marion was very particular about the way she presented herself to others, always taking care to put her best face forward.
Marion had a special place in her heart for animals, and even enjoyed hand feeding two migrating ducks that returned to her yard each year.
Marion spent the last few days of her life at the Sussman House in Rockport. Her family would like to extend a special heartfelt thank you to all the caring staff for their excellent end of life care.
