Man arrested for allegedly placing 12 year-old in chokehold
TROY — A Troy man has been arrested following reports he placed a 12 year-old boy in a headlock.
Waldo County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Nicholas Oettinger and Deputy Kyle Wasiela responded to Bishop Road in Troy, July 22, to investigate the incident.
Once on scene, both the victim and witnesses reported that Paul Hustus, 22, and the victim had been “joking around,” when Hustus placed the boy in a chokehold, according to a news release from the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim stated the restraint, which reportedly lasted for several minutes, almost caused him to lose consciousness.
Witnesses told Sgt. Oettinger and Deputy Wasiela that the boy was “in obvious distress during the incident,” according to the news release.
Hustus was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He was taken to the Waldo County Correction Center where he was later released on $1,500 cash bail.
