Knox County Sheriff’s beat: Domestic violence, seatbelt violations, attaching false plates
The Knox County Sheriff's office received 341 calls for service from May 24-30. Those calls that are not listed below include issues with all terrain vehicles, alarms, 911 hang-ups, nuisance, erratic vehicles and suspicious complaints. An arrest or summons does not constitute a finding of guilt. An individual charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at criminal proceedings.
May 24
Deputy Arthur Smith began an investigation of a burglary in Warren. This is still an active investigation.
Deputy Jeremy Joslyn conducted a county wide seatbelt detail. One summons was issued for same.
Joslyn arrested Andrew Pratt, age 38, of Rockland, on an outstanding arrest warrant. Subject was transported to the Knox County Jail without incident.
Deputies Paul Pinkham and Sgt. John Palmer responded to a report of a domestic in Warren. Following this response, Sheila Belcher, age 32, of Rockland, was arrested on a charge of domestic violence assault. Subject was transported to the Knox County Jail without incident.
Deputy Ken Smith conducted a county wide seatbelt detail. No violations were noted.
Joslyn, Deputy Pat Polky and Sgt. Lance Mitchell responded to a report of a domestic in Warren. This was deemed a verbal argument only and both subjects were warned on disorderly conduct.
Following a traffic stop in Warren, Smith issued summonses for failure to wear a seatbelt and operating without a license.
Deputies Paul Spear and Sgt. Matt Elwell conducted a county wide OUI detail. One arrest was made.
Joslyn and Elwell responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Warren involving a single vehicle. The female operator was transported to Pen Bay Medical Center by Warren Rescue for non-life threatening injuries. Reportable damage sustained, with probable charges pending.
May 25
Smith responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Tenants Harbor involving a single vehicle striking a deer. Reportable damage sustained.
Pinkham conducted a county wide seatbelt detail. No violations were noted.
Smith responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in St. George involving two vehicles. Reportable damage sustained.
Smith began an investigation of trespass in Warren. The suspect was located and issued a written notice for same.
Mitchell conducted a county wide seatbelt detail. Eight summonses were issued for same, along with one arrest for criminal speed.
Palmer conducted a county wide seatbelt detail. One summons was issued for same.
Spear and Sgt. Elwell conducted a county wide OUI detail. Two OUI crash related incidents noted.
Spear, Polky and Palmer responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Warren involving two vehicles. Following this response, Richard Rytky, age 53, of Warren, was arrested on charges of operating under the influence, operating after suspension, violating condition of release, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report accident by quickest means, possession of a suspended license and failure to stop for an officer. Subject was transported to the Knox County Jail without incident.
Following a traffic stop in Hope, Elwell issued a summons for speed.
Polky responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Cushing. Following this response, Elwell responded and issued a summons to Brian Houle, age 23, of Cushing for operating under the influence.
May 26
Following a traffic stop in Cushing, Deputy Nathaniel Jack issued a summons for speed.
Jack began an investigation of burglary in Friendship. This is still an active investigation.
Det. Justin Twitchell began an investigation of assault in Friendship. This is still an active investigation with probable charges pending.
Smith responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Appleton involving a single vehicle. Reportable damage sustained.
Smith and Mitchell responded to a report of an adult female who attempted to harm herself. Subject was transported to Pen Bay Medical Center by Union Ambulance for treatment.
Palmer conducted a county wide seatbelt detail. Eight summonses for same were issued.
Jack began an investigation of harassment in St. George. A warning will be issued once the suspect is located.
Spear responded to a motor vehicle crash in Hope involving a single vehicle. Reportable damage sustained.

May 27
Smith began an investigation of theft in Union. This is still an active investigation with one suspect named.

Deputy Robert Potter conducted a radar detail on Vinalhaven. No violations were noted.

May 28
Following a traffic stop in Warren, Joslyn arrested Stephen Mills, age 45, of Warren, on a charge of operating under the influence. Subject was transported to the Knox County Jail without incident.
Jack responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in South Thomaston involving a single vehicle. Reportable damage sustained. Both the operator and passenger were transported to Pen Bay Medical Center by South Thomaston Ambulance for non-life threatening injuries.
Mitchell conducted a County wide seatbelt detail. Three summonses were issued for same.
Potter conducted a radar detail on the island of Vinalhaven. No violations were noted.

Jack arrested Gresham Williams, age 38, of Rockport, on a probation violation. Subject was transported to the Knox County Jail without incident.
May 30
Jack, Joslyn and Sgt. Elwell responded to a report of an underage drinking party in Warren. Multiple summonses were issued.
Pinkham responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in South Thomaston involving a single vehicle. Reportable damage sustained.
Spear conducted a County wide seatbelt detail. One summons was issued for same.
Palmer began an investigation of harassment in the town of Union. The suspect was issued a warning for same.

Spear arrested Kelly Long, age 48, of Warren, on an outstanding arrest warrant. Subject was turned over to the Knox County Jail without incident.
