Knox County Livable Communities circulates countywide survey, asks public to respond
Knox County Livable Communities has launched a countywide survey for all adult residents of Knox County to share their opinions about the quality of life for people throughout the region.
The survey can be found at surveymonkey.com/r/KCLivableCommunities.
Paper copies can be requested by calling (207) 596-6477 extension 8.
This survey takes approximately ten minutes and the completion deadline is September 30.
Two random people who respond to the survey will win a $50 gift card.
The survey is one of the first projects of the Knox County Livable Communities since joining the AARP Network of Age Friendly states and communities in 2019. Over 70 communities throughout Maine are currently members of the network, with Maine becoming the sixth state in the nation to receive Age Friendly designation in October 2019.
The Knox County project is coordinated by MCH, Inc., a non-profit serving all of Knox County whose mission is to empower individuals, primarily older adults and people with disabilities, to maintain independent, active lives by providing them access to housing, Meals on Wheels and support services.
Since 1969 MCH’s programs have been providing a critical safety net for some of the communities’ most vulnerable residents. Knox County Livable Communities is comprised of a wide range of local organizations and application for county-wide designation was made by the Knox County Commissioners.
The countywide survey is one of the first keys steps in the project. Individual survey information is anonymous. Responses will indicate what people view as their region’s strengths, needs, and possibilities for the future. It will help planners gain knowledge from a cross-section of each community and the county as a whole. The goal is to glean information to help Knox County and its municipalities continue to make this a region of livable communities for people of all ages. Vinalhaven, a town within Knox County, is working on their own Age-Friendly Project tailored to their community, but residents of Vinalhaven are encouraged to respond to this survey to inform county wide activities, as well. More information about the Age Friendly movement can be found at AARP.org/Livable.
