Baribeau will not serve any jail time since he successfully met the terms of his deferred disposition reached with the state last year.
He pleaded guilty in November 2018 in Knox County Unified Court to criminal attempt. The terms of his one-year deferred disposition stipulated that if he followed the agreement, he would be sentenced to 364 days in jail, all suspended, and placed on probation for one year.
The sentence was finalized in Knox County Unified Court on Nov. 21, 2019.
According to the affidavit filed in court by Camden police, they received a report around 10 a.m. on Aug. 28, 2017, from the manager at a local grocery store that a person dressed in a yellow rain suit and wearing a ski mask, attempted to get into the back of a Brink’s armored truck that was parked outside the store.
The man, later identified as Baribeau, was unsuccessful and then ran off in the woods behind the shopping center.
Belfast police officer Travis Spencer, and his trained dog, Dex, a Dutch-German shepherd mix, assisted with the search but they did not locate the man.
Baribeau had been living in his boat that was in dry dock in Camden at the time of the incident, documents said. He had gone to the grocery store that morning to get a cup of coffee, according to the affidavit.
On Sept. 2, Camden police were contacted by Brunswick police about a possible suspect, who was living in that town. A resident there told police of suspecting that Baribeau was the one who tried to gain access to the Brink’s truck, the report said.
Camden Police Detective Curt Andrick said that police had also received new leads on the case from witnesses, and video evidence, according to a previous news release. Detective Don Murray of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with the investigation.
Police obtained a search warrant and searched the apartment of the sister in Brunswick where they collected a dark woolen knit hat and a yellow raincoat as evidence, according to the court document.
Baribeau was arrested Sept. 5, 2017 in Brunswick and transported to the Knox County Jail.
At his initial court hearing the following day, Judge Susan Sparaco set his bail at $1000 cash and he was ordered not to return to any financial institution and the Camden market.
