Joan Armstrong, obituary
BELFAST — Joan (Lemos) Armstrong passed away peacefully on April 21st in Belfast, Maine from complications of Parkinson’s plus dementia with her stepson, Mitch Brown and his wife Marcia holding her hands. Her husband, Cecil Armstrong, died in November 2019 and Joan is with him again, rejoicing in Heaven.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1948, Joan was the daughter of Walter and Pauline Lemos, and the sister of the late Jerry Lemos.
Joan lived in East Providence, Rhode Island before moving to Spring Hill, Florida. While living there, she met her husband. They lived in Brooksville, Florida before moving to Belfast, Maine to be near Cecil’s family.
Joan and Cecil were members of The First Baptist Church in Garden Grove, Florida and the Little River Baptist Church in Belfast, Maine. Their faith sustained them throughout their lives.
She was a graduate of Rhode Island College receiving degrees in Elementary and Art Education. Joan was a creative woman who enjoyed working with others to teach and share her many talents. She was a Master Gardener whose knowledge nurtured an abundance of vegetables and flowers. She loved animals, especially her cats.
Joan’s family expresses appreciation to Kindred Hospice for the loving care provided during her illness. They extend special gratitude to her caregivers: Wendy Canning, Christine Howie, April Harriman and Holly Pillsbury.
To honor Joan’s life, donations in Joan's memory to Kindred Hospice 824 Stillwater Avenue, Suite B, Bangor ME 04401 are appreciated. Her family will hold a private burial service at a future date.
