James Hall, obituary
ROCKPORT — James Arthur Hall, 80, died June 12, 2015, at the Sussman Hospice House in Rockport. Born in Thomaston on July 12, 1934, he was the son of Perley Langtry and Ruby Elizabeth (Foster) Hall and was a 1952 graduate of Thomaston High School.
He met his future wife, Sandra Richards, while attending a movie at The Strand Theater in Rockland. Jim was able to get Sandra's attention by tossing some popcorn at her. On July 5, 1953, they were married.
His early employment included working at First National in Rockland, 25 years at the A & P Grocery Store in Camden and for Sprowl Dry Cleaners. A licensed life and health insurance agent, Jim worked 25 years with Prudential Insurance Company with his favorite dog, Casey, riding alongside. He was the honored recipient of the Presidential Award at Prudential for a number of years based as a successful agent. He had worked for 10 years at Hannaford in Camden until May of this year.
Jim had also served on the Camden Fire Department, the Camden Select Board and was a former deacon at the First Congregational Church UCC in Camden. He enjoyed going out to eat and shopping in Freeport with his wife, Sandra.
Jim had an incredible sense of humor and could make anyone laugh or smile.
Jim's passion in life was his five children and their families. A devoted father and grandfather, he never missed a sporting event and was a big fan of the Camden-Rockport and Camden Hills Windjammers. Jim also coached Little League, was a golfer and was a talented billiards player.
Surviving is his wife, Sandra Hall of Rockport; five children, Tim (Mary) Hall of Northport, Marcia (Rich) Roberts of Lincolnville, Peter (Lisa) Hall of Thomaston, Jeffrey (Linda) Hall of Warren and Laurie Jennings and her friend, Martin Richard, of Boerne, Texas; 12 grandchildren, Kate (Mike) Roy, Shannan (Jason) Nutting, Shean Hall, Ben (Lisa) Spooner, Abby (Carm) Ferrante, Ryan (Lacy) Hall, Tyler (Susan) Hall, Heather Hall, Taylor Hall, John Hall, JJ Dennis, Justin, Sarah Samantha Jennings; five great-grandchildren, Adilyn, Maizey, Wyatt, Ava and Sydney; and one brother, Wayne Hall of New Jersey. Jim was predeceased by a brother, Bob Hall; and his sisters, Phyllis Lakeman and Natalie Sprague.
A memorial service, followed by a reception, will be held Saturday, June 20 at 2 p.m. at the Rockport Opera House with the Rev. Ralph Miller officiating.
