Full Coverage: GNARK Skateboarding's End Of Summer Throwdown

BELFAST – Several weeks ago the Penobscot Bay Pilot introduced the public to the new local skateboard company, GNARK, and previewed its End Of Summer Throwdown, a skate competition and gnark-fest held Oct. 28 at the Belfast skate park.
Attendees were witness to a skate competition with skaters Tristan Anderson, Brandon Carleton, Greg Stevens, Matt Buch, Carl Pillitteri and Max Press. Judges AJ Dutch, Hunter Finden and John Cronin oversaw the skate competition and gazed with the crowd at the massive amounts of gnar that was being spilled all over the skate park.
“I had a good time and I think everyone else did, too,” said GNARK founder Brennan Moore, who estimated 80 skaters and spectators showed up for the event. Moore was pleased with the turn out given the overcast and cold fall weather.
In addition, GNARK took the opportunity to showcase the company’s new merchandise including hats, T-shirts, sweatshirts and more.
The whole event came to a close with the hot dog eating competition as its finale. Dog-eaters Tommy Schleicher, Greg Stevens, Carl Pillitteri, Mikey Nichols and Juston Whiting had to eat 10 snappy red hot dogs as fast as they could. The first one to consume all 10 would be crowned the winner. It was kind of gross.
In the skate competition and hot dog eating contest, Greg Stevens took first place. Second place in the skating section was awarded to Max Press and coming in third place was Brandon Carleton. Hunter Finden won the S.K.A.T.E. games.
