Daylight saving time begins March 9
Visions of crocuses and daffodils and the return of the Midcoast’s warm-weather bird population may seem still too far away, but spring IS really coming and a first good sign (especially this long winter season) will be the arrival of daylight saving time.
Sunday, March 9, daylight saving time begins at 2 a.m. That means you should probably spring your clocks forward an hour Saturday, March 8, or you may be late for church or your weekly rendezvous with your morning walking partner.
And if that’s not good enough news for you, we are happy to report that the first day of spring, the vernal equinox, is just 11 days later, on Thursday, March 20.
There, consider yourself informed. Now go get yourself some seeds and get sowing. The first day of summer this year is Saturday, June 21, plenty of time for proper germination for many varieties of flowers, fruits and vegetables.
