MIDCOAST — As of 8 p.m., just over 4,300 Central Maine Power residents in Knox and Waldo counties were without power Sunday night, Jan. 10, as the day’s building storm finally unleashed the high winds the National Weather Service was forecasting. Hours of pouring rain in the afternoon also combined with the winds that followed, keeping fire and utility crews busy chasing calls about flooded roads and downed trees and limbs.

Wayfarer Marine in Camden is reporting winds of 33 to 46 mph. A high wind warning is in effect until 8 p.m., with gusts of 60 mph a possibility, according to the NWS. As the clock rounded 8 p.m., a peek at the radar showed this storm could last a bit longer, but is well past and headed further Downeast.

Rains are supposed to subside around 10 p.m., and the downpours of earlier have certainly ceased.

Just after 8 p.m. CMP was reporting 21,898 of its customers without power. There are and continue to be reports of trees and power lines down all across Knox and Waldo counties. In Knox County, 3,438 customers are without electricity, and in Waldo County, 1,095 customers have been affected.

According to the CMP website, the worst hit areas in the state for power outages tonight are Cumberland County (6,924), Lincoln County (4,332), Knox County (3,438), Sagadahoc County (2,748), Hancock County (1,534) and Kennebec County (1,528).

The current temperature is around 50 degrees Fahrenheit, with rain, fog and mist.

Following is the forecast for the beginning of the week:

Monday :Partly sunny, with a temperature falling to around 29 F by 5 p.m. West wind around 15 mph.
Monday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 17 F. West wind 10 to 15 mph.
Tuesday: A 40 percent chance of snow showers after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 32 F. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon.
Tuesday night: Snow before 1 a.m., then rain and snow showers between 1 and 2 a.m., then snow likely after 2 a.m. Low around 25 F. Breezy, with a southeast wind 15 to 20 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.
Wednesday: A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 30 F. Breezy.
Wednesday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 14 F. Breezy.
