Schools sending students home

The snow storm is making for slick roads, and meetings, games and events are getting postponed and cancelled. Here is the latest.

• The Rockport Select Board special library workshop that was scheduled for this evening, Feb. 7, has been posted until Feb. 9. The purpose of the workshop is to talk with planners, engineers, contractors and architects about the two library sites, 1 Limerock Street and the former RES site on West Street, and their suitability as a home for a new library.

• The community meeting regarding a later school start time that was scheduled for tonight in Warren with area school superintendents has been cancelled, with no immediate rescheduling date.

• Hope Selectmen are postponing their meeting tonight, and rescheduling to Wednesday evening, at 6 p.m. There will be a department budget presentation to the selectmen from the cemetery and fire department. There will be a department budget presentation on Feb. 9, on roads and administrative office.

• The Rockland Planning Board has been postponed until next Tuesday, February 14, at 5:15 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall due to inclement weather.

• The Penobscot Bay YMCA and Rockland Harbor YMCA's Child Care Centers will close at 4 p.m. All afternoon & evening youth programs (including Swim Team) have been cancelled at the Penobscot Bay YMCA, Rockland Harbor YMCA and the Rockland Community Center.

• The Teen Center is now closed. The Penobscot Bay YMCA, Rockland Harbor YMCA and the Rockland Community Center will remain open.

The Rockland Library’s Thursday, Feb. 9 program, Astronomy 101 with Ron Thompson, has been postponed. The new date for this program will be Tuesday, March 7, at 6 p.m.

• Schools are letting out early, if they haven’t already cancelled for the day.

• Camden Hills basketball games vs Cony are postponed until Feb. 8.

• The Camden Hills hockey game is postponed against Old Town/Orono. A new make up date for hockey will be announced soon.

Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Wednesday

A chance of rain or freezing rain before 7am, then a chance of rain between 7am and 10am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 46. Breezy, with a south wind 15 to 20 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Mostly cloudy, with a low around 20. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph.
