Camden American Legion thanks community for support of recycling program

CAMDEN — Last summer the American Legion Hall Post 30 started a recycling program to help raise funds for their community service projects.
A collection box was built by Cecil Dennison, service officer of the post and member John Hyssong. They recycled the former sign on the post’s building for the front of the bin.
After a year of fundraising, Legion members are extending their appreciation and thanks to the community for their donations to their returnable bottle fund.
“The community’s support allows us to give back to the community through Memorial and Veterans Day programs, including passing out flags to the community at local parades,” said Hyssong. “Club members also enjoy supporting the annual Pearl Street Halloween celebration by providing safety glow in the dark bracelets and necklaces for the kids and parking at our building.”
In addition, the Legion is raising funds to improve and upgrade the Legion Hall to make it available for private rentals. The proceeds will also be used to support community and veteran programs.
Returnable glass, plastic bottles, and cans are all still being accepted along with worn-out American flags in a special slot on the side of the recycle bin. Legion members will be conducting a future ceremony to properly retire the flags.
Donations are accepted year-round and 24 hours a day.
