BOOTHBAY — Sharon L. Wright, 82, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on March 5, 2025, at St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor.
Sharon was born on April 13, 1943 to Helen Johnson and Leo Chase of Rockland/Vinalhaven area. Coincidently Sharon was very superstitious, and Friday the 13th was one of the worst days in her eyes. She attended Rockland High School and later married the love of her life, Irvin Wright from Hope. They had a forever kind of love, and raised three wonderful daughters together, Valerie, Carolyn (CJ) and Holly. Irvin passed away in 1986 while they lived in Boothbay, Sharon never remarried and later moved back to Rockland to be closer to family.
Sharon was a very talented lady. In her younger years she worked as a seamstress starting at Schoolhouse Togs in Camden, later moving to other local businesses. She also made doll clothes and loved to make clothing, and pajamas for her many grandchildren. She even adjustments to some of the families favorite Levi jeans so they could continue to be worn during pregnancy. Sharon also worked for many years as a chambermaid at Smugglers Cove and Lobsterman’s Warf in Boothbay Harbor. Although her life was filled with challenges and health problems from an early age, she always found a way to fight through it and come back stronger than before. Sharon successfully fought breast cancer, had a total knee replacement and a hip replacement at 79 years old, just to name a few of her successful fights. She had a strong winning spirit with a positive attitude and a strength like no other for most of her life.
Sharon was an outgoing person and loved being with her friends and family. She loved country music, dancing and having a few drinks with her friends she would refer to as “tawdies”. She loved planning family cookouts and just being with her loved ones. Sharon was an avid bingo player even after she moved into St Andrews village she would play weekly! She loved to watch Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and wouldn’t miss a soap opera. She was very proud of her family. Nothing gave her greater joy than seeing her family. She enjoyed getting to meet each of her great grandchildren, and once the family kept growing, her great-great grandchildren! They brought her such joy and laughter in her senior years. Sharon had a vanity license plate made up with her nickname of NANGR8 just to show how proud she was. Later in life Sharon enjoyed going on adventures with her best friends of over 60 years, Gloria Hannon and Laura Hatch. The trio enjoyed many trips camping, and visiting other places including Niagara Falls in New York and various spots around Maine.
Sharon was predeceased by both her parents; her beloved husband, Irvin; her oldest great-grandson, Tyler Wood; and her oldest daughter, Valerie Wood; all of her 9 brothers and sisters, as well as her best friend, Gloria Hannon, whom she considered more of a sister than her friend.
Sharon is survived by her two remaining daughters, Carolyn Stewart (CJ) and her husband Charles of Westport Island, Holly Wright of Bowdoinham; her son-in-law Spencer Wood of Union; her 7 grandchildren Jamie Wood, Tara Wood, Matthew Wood, Kenny Doak, Heather Miete, Allison Haggett and Brianna Hipp; as well as many great-grandchildren and most recently 2 great-great-grandchildren. Sharon was loved by many and leaves behind many special nieces, nephews and cousins that all shared a special place in her heart.
Sharon was a force to be reckoned with, a true matriarch who will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Her spirit will continue to live on with her family, and in the lives she touched over the years.
Sharon’s family would like to send a special ‘Thank You’ to the staff at St. Andrew’s Village who lovingly referred to her as Nana and became like family, for the amazing care and support they provided Sharon in the last years of her life.
Per Sharon’s request her family will remember her life privately. To share a memory or condolence with them, please visit their Book of Memories at www.bchfh.com.
Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, Rockland.
