SEARSPORT — In his regular Radio Searsport email dispatches, resident Dick Desmarais seeks to keep the community updated on pending municipal and school board meetings, local fisheries hearings and other items of interest.
Following is the most recent Radio Searsport dispatch, dated Feb. 17.
• Monday, Feb. 18, the Town Hall will be closed for President's Day.
• Tuesday, Feb. 19, starting at 7 p.m., the regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen will take place in the Town Hall. This meeting will be televised.
• Sunday, Feb. 24, starting at 2 p.m., the annual Meet the Candidates event will take place in the Town Hall. This year two candidates are running for the one open seat on the Board of Selectmen (Meredith Ares and Travis Otis) and one candidate for the School Board (Percy King). Town Manager James Gillway will give a brief "State of the Town" address.
• Monday, Feb. 25, starting at 6 p.m., there will be another evening of the public hearing on the DCP application, to be held in the Searsport High School. Snow date will be Tuesday, Feb. 26.
• Wednesday, Feb. 27, starting at 6:30 p.m., the Shellfish Management Committee will meet in the Dan Rich Public Safety Building.
• During the month of January the Searsport Police Department responded to 181 calls for service and the Fire Department to 17.
• A reminder that tax appointments with free e-filing are available Wednesdays through April 10, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., at the Carver Memorial Library in Searsport. For a tax appointment, call Pat Snyder at 567-3137 evenings. This free service, sponsored by the AARP Foundation in conjunction with the Eastern Maine Ca$h Coalition and the IRS, is available for low to moderate income tax payers of any age, with special attention for those 60 and over. The volunteer tax preparers are IRS certified.
