Camden ladder truck called to help First Aid rescue injured worker off Quarry Hill roof

CAMDEN — Camden First Aid Association was called to Quarry Hill in Camden Friday afternoon for a worker injured on the roof, but they ended up needing the help of Camden firefighters when it was determined the man had to literally be removed off the roof.
"Between fire personnel, the ladder truck and packing by our emergency personnel, we had an easy rescue," said CFAA Paramedic Justin Hills.
On the way to the call, the CFAA crew was told there was a ladder inside the building, up which they would be able to access the roof, and the patient. Unfortunately, that access point was not suitable for removing an immobile victim with a knee injury. So the fire department was called on to bring the ladder truck and some people.
Up on the roof, Paramedic Bill Bentley and EMT Brian Allen worked with firefighters Todd Anderson and John Wickenden to package and transport the 44-year-old male patient down the ladder. Down on the ground, firefighter Cheyne Hansen operated the ladder's controls and firefighters Scott Entwistle, Mary Stiehler and Tom Quantrell assisted with equipment and moving the patient from the ladder to the ambulance. In addition, fire police Harold Drinkwater and Jerry Entwistle closed the parking and driveway areas off to traffic.
Bentley, leader of the CFAA Technical Rescue Team, handled belay of the litter as it was lowered down the ladder. The roof was four stories up, according to Hills, who added that the patient was then transported to Pen Bay Medical Center for treatment of his injury.
