Police investigating two Waldo County mid-day burglaries
BELFAST — Two recent burglaries in the Waldo County towns of Thorndike and Monroe have law enforcement on alert, as both incidents occurred during the day with homeowners encountering the intruder(s).
Waldo County Sheriff's deputies and Maine State Police troopers are investigating two separate daytime burglaries, which police feel are related. The Monroe burglary was reported at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, and the Thorndike burglary was reported just 30 minutes later, at 1 p.m.
In the Thorndike case, a female was at home when a male reportedly kicked open the door of the residence. According to Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton, the woman confronted the intruder and was told he was "looking for someone else" before he departed.
The victim described a light-colored sport utility vehicle with a female driver, waiting outside for the male.
In Monroe, a female homeowner came out from a back room in the residence and discovered the front door wide open, according to Trafton. The homeowner also reported seeing a sport utility vehicle in the driveway and heard someone upstairs in a bedroom.
When a male emerged from upstairs, the woman reportedly asked the male what he was doing and he said he was there looking for someone else before eventually leaving.
"We feel that both of these burglaries are related and the Waldo County Sheriff's Office is looking for the public's help to identify the male in the sketch," said Trafton in a press release.
