Bolduc: Fire call 'not major'
WARREN — The structure fire reported at Bolduc Correctional Facility in Warren Thursday morning around 9:40 has been described as "not major" by Maine Department of Corrections media contact Judy Plummer.
Warren Fire Department was called to respond to Bolduc and by automatic response, Waldoboro and Union fire departments were called to the facility at 516 Cushing Road, along with an EMS unit.
Plummer said some walls inside the prison's bathrooms were being prepped for new tiles and the process, which involved warming the walls, caused the pipes to heat up as well.
"The warming of the copper piping caused insulation around it to smolder, but there were no flames," said Plummer.
Warren and Waldoboro firefighters and equipment remain on scene as of 10:50 a.m.
"It looks like a major event, because of all the fire equipment here, but it's really not," said Plummer.
Plummer said that per protocol, inmates were evacuated from the area of concern.
