Rockport accident sends one to hospital
A two-car collision slowed traffic on Route 90 in Rockport for approximately 45 minutes, as Camden First Aid tended to drivers, transporting one pregnant woman to Pen Bay Medical Center for precautionary care.
The accident took place at 2:39 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, on West Street, near Roberts Roost Road.
According to Rockport Police Officer Dana Smith, Rachel Joyce, 35, of Camden, was heading west on Route 90, driving in a 1998 Volvo Cross Country station wagon, along with two passengers. As she slowed to accomodate a vehicle in front of her that was turning left into Pro-Rental of Rockport, another car, operated by Ashley Asbien, 19, of Warren, rear-ended the Volvo.
Both front airbags deployed in Asbien's car, a 1997 Ford Taurus.
There were no injuries, but because Asbien is pregnant, she was transported by Camden First Aid to the hospital for assessment. Later in the afternoon, Smith reported that Asbien appeared to be alright.
Smith attributed the accident to driver inattention.
Rockport Fire Department and Camden First Aid Association responded to the accident.
