CHRHS Jazz Ensemble closes festival season with top honors at UNH Clark Terry Jazz Festival
ROCKPORT — The Camden Hills Regional High School (CHRHS) Jazz Ensemble wrapped up a successful festival season with a standout performance at the prestigious UNH Clark Terry Jazz Festival last month, earning the Most Outstanding Ensemble in its division. The group competed against 15 other top high school jazz ensembles from across Maine to Massachusetts, showcasing the strength and talent of the CHRHS music program.
In addition to taking top ensemble honors, the CHRHS saxophone section was recognized as Best Saxophone Section in their class.
The ensemble delivered a diverse and compelling set featuring:
- "Just Squeeze Me," arranged by local composer Terry White, spotlighting Katie Kunkel on trumpet, Natalie Bolduc on tenor saxophone, Cameron Pinchbeck on alto saxophone, and Oscar Barnes on trombone.
- "Letter From Home," featuring Oliver Adams on guitar and Zevediah Whitcomb on piano.
- "Furioso," a fiery, Afro-Cuban-infused closer that highlighted Monty Rugg on tenor saxophone and Oscar Barnes on trombone.
Oscar Barnes received an individual Outstanding Musicianship Award for his exceptional contributions throughout the ensemble's performance.
The jazz season continues with an upcoming performance Tuesday, May 13, at 6:30 p.m., at Strom Auditorium.
