Glenys Harrington, obituary
FRIENDSHIP — Glenys P. Harrington, 93, died peacefully Aug. 24, 2013, at Coves Edge Nursing Home in Damariscotta.
Born Oct. 20, 1919, in Bremen Long Island, Maine, she was the daughter of Melvin A. and Lottie McLain Simmons. Growing up on Bremen Long Island, she moved with her family as a young girl to Friendship, where she was educated and graduated from the Friendship Village School. During the family's move to Friendship, their three-story home and family-run store was loaded onto a barge and moved across the river, where she has since resided.
On April 27, 1940, Glenys married Mertland G. Harrington in Rockland. For many years Mrs. Harrington was employed as a housekeeper for several area families.
Predeceased by her husband; two sons, Eugene and Erville; and seven siblings; Mrs. Harrington is survived by a son, Russell Harrington of Friendship; an adopted son, Bruce Winslow, also of Friendship; as well as several grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
A graveside celebration of her life will be held Friday, Aug. 30, at 2 p.m. at Village Cemetery on Dublin Road in South Thomaston. The Rev. Alan Chamberlin will officiate.
