Wireless telecom tower application on Union Planning Board's April 25 agenda
UNION — An application to build a wireless telecommunications facility on Mt. Pleasant Road is fourth up on the Union Planning Board agenda Thursday, April 25.
The planning board meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the town office meeting room. In addition to the cell tower application, the planning board will take up applications to expand an accessory structure on Buckeye Lane (Matt and Esther Williamson), to operate a winery/tasting room on Barrett Hill Road (Elmer Savage) and to operate a sales lot on Heald Highway (Shed Solutions LLC) — all allowed uses with planning board approval, according to Union Code Enforcement Officer Barry Norris.
The cell tower application is due to be presented by Bay Communication II LLC. It too is an allowed use, with planning board approval.
If the application is found to be complete, Norris said the planning board will set a public hearing date — or dates. The application will be sent back to the drawing board until it is complete if it is found to be incomplete Thursday night.
"A member of the public asked for two nights of public hearings about the cell tower, but the chairman of the planning board set that request aside until they get into the process, until they have an accepted application to decide on," said Norris.
Once the application is accepted as complete by the planning board, it has 90 days to complete the process, which includes seeking and considering public input.
In addition to the public hearing(s), the process involves sending out notices to abutters (within at least 500 feet). The planning board will then go into a workshop, digest all the information and ultimately come up with a determination, said Norris.
"No determinations about anything have been yet," said Norris. "Board members only walked the site to familiarize themselves with what they might be getting in the application."
Norris said the first three items on the agenda should move fairly quickly, with the cell tower application coming up for presentation immediately afterward.
