Gov. Mills directs flags be flown at half-staff in remembrance of 9/11
AUGUSTA — Governor Janet Mills has directed the United States and State of Maine flags be flown at half-staff statewide all day Wednesday, Sept. 11 in remembrance of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack.
"Tested by unimaginable tragedy, Americans united on September 11, 2001 to confront hatred and build a stronger nation. We showed the world that we will not be cowed by terror or divided by doubt, while those that would harm us watched as America's sons and daughters raised our flag once again above the rubble," said Governor Janet Mills. “Today as we honor the nearly 3,000 friends, family, and fellow Americans we lost, let us remember the bonds that unite us, even in our darkest of days, and recommit ourselves to the values that have shaped this state and this nation.
