Warren man overturns Cadillac in I295 high-speed chase, police say
Maine State Police said Thursday night that a Warren man faces a number of charges following a high-speed chase from Yarmouth to Portland on Interstate 295. The chase ended at the Forest Ave. exit in Portland when the speeding Cadillac he was driving went out of control and overturned at 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening.
The driver was 41-year-old Robby Beaulieu, who is being treated at Maine Medical Center in Portland for injuries that are not life threatening, according to State Police Spokesman Steve McCausland.
Trooper Douglas Cropper said he found an open bottle of whiskey in the car and that speeds reached 110 mph as he attempted to pull over the speeding Cadillac, McCausland reported in a news release. State Police had received reports of an erratic driver and Cropper spotted the car in the southbound lane in Yarmouth a short time afterwards, the release said. The crash took place at 6:30 p.m., soon after heavy rush hour traffic had subsided.
State police said Beaulieu had a suspended driver’s license for a number of offenses, including operating under the influence and operating after suspension of his license. Cropper charged him with criminal speed, eluding a police officer, driving to endanger and operating after suspension, the release said. The car was owned by an Arundel car dealer and was demolished in the crash, McCausland said.
