State Police identify Troy man facing child sex abuse charges
TROY — State Police have identified the man involved in a shooting in Troy March 13 as 71-year-old Raymond Carson.
Carson shot himself in the chest after refusing to answer the door to his Barker Road home. Detectives went to Carson's home Wednesday around 2 p.m. to arrest him on child sex abuse charges. No shots were fired by police during the incident, which drew the State Police Tactical Team to the area when Carson refused to come out.
Shortly after the tactical team arrived and surrounded the outside of the residence, Carson shot himself, according to police yesterday.
State Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland Thursday said detectives searched Carson's home last week and seized evidence related to the investigation. His victim is described as a "young girl."
Carson was flown by a LifeFlight of Maine helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with a gunshot wound to his chest. McCausland said Carson, who underwent surgery last night, is expected to survive.
"Once he recovers, Carson will be charged with sexual exploitation of a minor, furnishing liquor to a minor and providing a place for a minor to consume liquor," said McCausland in the release Thursday.
