UPDATED: Search for missing Yarmouth woman concluded




NORTH YARMOUTH (updated Oct. 7) — The State Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed that a body found Friday, Oct. 5, in North Yarmouth, is that of Kristen Westra.
Westra’s body was found in a wooded area between Gray Road and Lufkin Road in North Yarmouth after approximately five days of search efforts coordinated by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, the Maine State Police, and the Maine Warden Service.
According to an October 7 midday news release from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, the M.E.’s office further determined the cause of death as suicide.
Westra had been missing since Monday, Oct. 1, according to the release.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office extends condolences to Kristin’s family and friends. The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Maine Warden Service, Maine State Police, search and rescue volunteers, and the North Yarmouth Fire Department for their assistance in this investigation.

NORTH YARMOUTH — Authorities from multiple agencies including Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, Maine State Police and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office continue to search for Kristin Westra of Lufkin Road in Yarmouth, according to a news release from Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
Westra, 47, went missing overnight on Sunday, September 30 from her home. Her car, cell phone, keys and wallet were left at her home, according to police. She may have been wearing flip flops when she disappeared, however police do not know what clothing she was wearing, according to news reports.
Westra has brown hair and brown eyes, weighs around 140 pounds, and is 5 feet 10 inches tall.
On Thursday, October 4, Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife issued a news release stating that the search would continue throughout the day.
According to the release, authorities met this morning to analyze and strategize next steps based on what has been learned since Westra’s disappearance. Maine State Troopers and Cumberland County Sheriff’s Deputies continue to receive and investigate leads.
Maine game wardens will search areas today related to tips being received of possible sightings. To date, search teams have covered an area nearly one-and-a-half miles surrounding Westra’s Lufkin Road home.
