Woman found deceased at St. George beach
ST. GEORGE — A woman who’d told her husband Monday night that she wasn’t feeling well was later found deceased along a St. George beach. How she died is currently being determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
The husband of Cherie Yattaw, 69, reported to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office that sometime in the night his wife had left their St. George home on foot and hadn’t returned.
Around 5 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 2, Mr. Yattaw initiated a missing person’s report that prompted a search by the KCSO, according to KCSO Deputy Chief Tim Carroll in a news release.
After a brief search in the area of Drift Inn Beach Road, Yattaw was found deceased at Drift Inn Beach.
Due to not being able to specifically state a cause of death at the scene, and Maine Medical Examiner’s death protocol, the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit was called to assist in the investigation.
Yattaw was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office analysis. No foul play is expected, according to Carroll.
St. George Fire and Rescue and Knox County Regional Communications Center assisted with the initial call.
