Rockport Library Capital Campaign half way to $2 million fundraising goal

ROCKPORT – The Rockport Library Foundation, a nonprofit that is helping to raise money to fund the construction of new library in Rockport Village, hung a building-sized mural and the announcement that the capital campaign is half way to its $2 million goal to build it. The mural was affixed at the end of September to the existing Rockport Library building on the corner of Limerock and Union streets and Russell Avenue.
“We’ve seen overwhelming support early on from the community,” said Capital Campaign Co-chairman Bill Leone, in a news release. “And we’ve found that the plan itself is really helpful in showing donors and voters alike just how much value this project represents. The current plan is the culmination of a lot of hard work by a lot of talented members of our community and we’re delighted to showcase it.”
The total project cost for the library is budgeted at $3.5 million. The Town Select Board is asking voters to approve a $1.5 million bond on Nov. 6 to partially fund the project. The remaining $2 million is to be raised by the Rockport Library Foundation, a nonprofit organization established exclusively to fund the new library.
“Not only do we have an excellent building plan, it’s also a great value to the town when you realize the majority of the cost is covered through private donations,” said Leone, in the release.
