Motorcycle, deer collision in Appleton sends driver to hospital
APPLETON – On September 29, just before 6 p.m., the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Union Ambulance Service and Appleton Fire Department were dispatched to a motorcycle accident on the Burkettville Road in Appleton.
Upon investigation by Deputy Paul Spear, Tyler J. Ward, 33, of Ohio, was traveling on his 2007 Harley Davidson easterly on the Burkettville Road when a deer entered the roadway.
He was not able to stop or avoid hitting the deer, according to a KCSO news release.
Ward and the motorcycle slid on the road for several feet before leaving the roadway onto the dirt shoulder. Ward had no apparent signs of injury, besides blood coming from his ear.
Due to a possible head injury, Life Flight of Maine was requested by EMS.
Ward was removed from the scene and transported to a hospital for further treatment.
