Abandoned vehicle leads police to burglarized home, second stolen car
ROCKLAND — Rockland police investigating an abandoned vehicle on Bog Road Saturday afternoon discovered that not only had it been stolen from a West Meadow Road residence, the home had been burglarized as well.
Officers were called to Bog Road around 4 p.m. Feb. 23 for a report of a suspicious, abandoned vehicle. When they arrived, they found a Dodge Durango and determined that its owner was out of town.
"He said the vehicle should be in his garage, not on Bog Road," said Rockland Deputy Chief Wally Tower.
The officers then went to the owners' residence and discovered that a second car had also been stolen from the garage, and that the residence had been burglarized and numerous items taken.
The second vehicle, a Honda CRV, was discovered at Coughlin Park apartments off Rankin Street.
"The case has been assigned to Detective Russ Thompson and we do have suspects," said Tower. "We hope to bring this case to a conclusion today."
