What’s on school board agendas next week? Budget meetings, contracts and school realignments
RSU 71 (Belfast, Morrill, Searsmont, Swanville and Belmont) has a full slate of business to tend to March 23, while School Administrative District 28 (Camden-Rockport K-8) and the Five Town CSD (Camden Hills Regional High School) will hold a budget meetings March 24. And, the Appleton School Committee will hold a special meeting March 23 for Appleton Village School to talk about its own budget and teacher contract negotiations.

RSU 71 meets at 6:30 p.m., March 23, at the Troy Howard Middle School, 173 Lincolnville Ave., in Belfast. Click here for the complete agenda.
The board will discuss East Belfast and Nickerson School and K-Team relocation.
According to the meeting notes: “There will be no action taken regarding this matter on March 23. The board will discuss the possible realigning of East Belfast and Nickerson schools.... The directors of RSU 71 want to assure everyone that any proposal of this magnitude will not be forced through or decided in haste. On March 23, the board will discuss the merits and drawbacks of such a proposal and will decide if the idea warrants further exploration. If the board decides to look into the idea further there will be a minimum of two public forums (one in Swanville and one on the East side of Belfast) in addition to the regular public board meetings where the issue would be discussed. Also a formal proposal outlining all aspects of the change would be drafted and made public.”

Appleton School Committee
The Appleton committee is holding a special meeting March 23, at 6 p.m. in the Appleton Village School library. The agenda includes discussing the 2015-2016 proposed budget. The committee has reviewed the budget, and at the Feb. 8 meeting board members said they wanted more time for further review.
SAD 28 and Five Town CSD
The school boards overseeing Camden Hills Regional High School and School Administrative District 28 are holding two public meetings March 24 in Rockport to discuss their proposed 2015-2016 budgets. The proposed CSD budget is $12 million and the proposed SAD 28 budget is $12.6 million.
The proposed CSD budget is up 1.68 percent, or $170,589 from the current budget.
The CSD comprises towns of Appleton, Camden, Hope, Lincolnville and Rockport.
The proposed SAD 28 (Camden and Rockport, K-8) is up 1.74 percent, or $199,891.
The meetings will be held in the Camden Hills Regional High School chorus room beginning with the SAD 28 budget at 6 p.m. The CSD budget will be reviewed at 7 p.m.
The meetings offer an opportunity for the public to see a presentation on the budgets developed to date, and to provide input to school board members prior to their final approval of the budget in April.
