UPDATED: Three cars, two collisions tie up Rockland Route 1
ROCKLAND – The Route 1 driver who clipped a pickup truck before colliding with another vehicle in Rockland, August 27, was eventually transported by LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center following the accident.
According Rockland Police Sgt. Ken Smith, Tanna Halvorson, 34, of Littleton, NH, initially stopped in the northbound lane of Route 1 to allow a pickup truck driven by Jason Bailey, 43, of Warren, to cross the intersection. As Bailey started to cross, Halvorson accelerated.
Bailey attempted to avoid being struck, but was unable to do so, according to Smith.
Halvorson then continued north, striking a southbound vehicle occupied by Ruth Woodard, 67, and James Woodard, 69, of Manchester Center, VT.
All four individuals involved were transported to Pen Bay Medical Center immediately following the incident.
This crash is still under investigation.
ROCKLAND – Traffic along Payne Road (U.S. Route 1) was forced to divert along Pleasant and Park streets, Monday, Aug. 27, after consecutive crashes closed the busy commuter stretch.
Around 3:30 p.m., a vehicle traveling north was involved in a collision at the intersection of Route 1 and Pleasant Street. That contact damaged the driver side rear bumper of a pickup truck.
A resident of Pleasant Street heard that first crash. She said she ran to the scene and found that one of the vehicles had left.
Soon after, a head-on collision occurred to the north.
Rockland police, fire, and EMS responded to the scene along with North East Mobile Ambulance, Thomaston Ambulance and Thomaston Police.
At least one person was transported to the hospital.
New County Road was reopened by 4:40 p.m.
