Two Alfred women suffer serious injuries in Warren Route 1 crash
WARREN — Route 1 near the Warren/Waldoboro town line was closed Sunday evening, March 15, following a crash that sent the driver, as well as her passenger, first to Miles Memorial Hospital, in Damariscotta, with serious and critical injuries, and then to Maine Medical Center, in Portland.
According to the Knox County Sheriff's Office, the crash occurred at approximately 5:20 p.m. when Cassandra Bean, 55, of Alfred, lost control of her 1987 Dodge pickup while driving south and crossed the center line, striking the rear tires of a tractor trailer.
Slippery road conditions contributed to the accident, which caused Bean, and her passenger, Lauren Morrissette, 57, also of Alfred, to be ejected from the pickup. Two dogs that were in pickup with them were ejected, and one has since died from its injuries.
The driver of 2001 Mack truck, Aaron Grindle, 48, of Waldoboro, was not injured in the crash.
Bean, in serious condition, and her passenger were transported to Miles Memorial Hospital, in Damariscotta. Her passenger, in critical condition, was subsequently transported to Maine Medical Center in via Waldoboro Emergency Medical Services.
Maine Medical Center reported Monday morning, March 16, that Morrissette remained in critical condition, Bean in serious condition.
Both women were not wearing their seat belts, according to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
“Speed was a contributing factor in the accident, along with road and weather conditions,” the SO said, in a news release.
The crash remains under investigation.
Knox County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash and was assisted by Waldoboro PD, Waldo County Sheriff's Office, Maine State Police, as well as Warren and Waldoboro Fire and Rescues.
