UNION — A Thomaston woman was transported to a Maine hospital by LifeFlight, Tuesday night, Aug. 13, due to serious injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate why a white Jeep Cherokee driven by Amy Thompson, of Thomaston, left Heald Highway, in Union, before coming to a halt approximately 30 feet from the pavement.

Based on a 10:30 p.m., third-party call to 911, emergency responders found Thompson still inside the vehicle, in the area of Union Agway.

Union EMS extricated Thompson from the vehicle, according to the KCSO. 

Hope Fire Department set up landing zone at Union Elementary for the medical helicopter, and the vehicle was towed away due to disabling damage.

Lead investigator for the crash is Deputy Jacob Labo.

The KCSO was assisted by Knox Regional Communications Center, Union Fire Department, Union Rescue, Waldoboro Emergency Medical Service, Lifeflight of Maine, Camden Exxon, and Thomaston Police Department.
